Rather than meeting at our beautiful new campus, we'll be starting the 2020-2021 school year off with distance learning. I know that the 2019-2020 school year ended with distance learning, but there have been some changes to how we will go about it this year.
The district has outlined this year's distance learning expectations by publishing SUSD's 2020-2021 Distance Learning Guidebook. It is available in several languages at this link. I'd like to highlight some parts that you might find important. GRADES All students are expected to participate in distance learning. Unlike the end of the 2019-2020 school year where grades might not have been affected if students did not complete assignments, students will be graded based on their work while distance learning is implemented. For 8th grade we will use the following marks A, B, C, D, or No Mark for final grades. PARTICIPATION & ATTENDANCE The minimum daily instructional time for 8TH graders is 240 minutes. This is a combination of the time students spent in live meetings online with their teachers and independent work time. Students are expected to participate in live online learning every day as well as complete their independent work. Mr. White will be available by appointment to help students during independent work times. Students that do not participate in online instruction daily will be marked absent. ACCESS TO INTERNET & TECHNOLOGY SUSD is again making Chromebooks available to all students who need one this year. Technical support can be found here. Options for getting wifi in your home can be found here. A limited number of wifi hot spots are available for students as well. You will need to complete this Internet Request Survey if you are interested in getting a hot spot. MENTAL HEALTH RESOURCES I know that this has been a very trying time for all of us. SUSD's Mental Health department has a number of resources available that you may find helpful. You can find them on their website.
